Lotta paints figurative oil paintings, and is inspired by early 20th Century painters such as the Scottish Colourists and William Nicholson. For the last few years she has lived between Islamabad, Tuscany, Bangkok and London, and in 2022 she moved to Jerusalem. In 2023 Lotta was elected Associate member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. In 2021 Lotta won first prize in the British Arts Prize, and in 2022 she held her first solo exhibition in a West End Gallery at Panter and Hall. Her paintings can be found with Panter and Hall (Mayfair), the Jerram Gallery (Sherborne), Beaux Arts Bath, and Collins Galleries (Massachusetts) or bought directly. She is a member of Chelsea Arts Club.

Raised in London and attending St Paul’s Girls’ School and the University of Edinburgh, she trained as a barrister and worked for 14 years in law and development, living for many years in Sierra Leone and Pakistan. She now does animal law one day a week on a pro bono basis. Having painted since she was young, in 2018 she started painting professionally, and has developed a practice focusing on still life and plein air, with a particular interest in gardens and architecture.

Primarily self-trained, she aims to paint loosely, with accuracy of colour and drawing, while maintaining a certain liveliness. Lotta enjoys painting silver and iridescent ceramics which reflect the light and colours of the room, and she offsets them with something alive – a simple fruit or vegetable, or an egg. Her paintings often evoke memories of a calmer time and allow the viewer a moment to breathe.

Many of the works on this site are for sale and Lotta also undertakes commissions. Please get in touch for further details. Her works are in private collections in Europe (Italy, France, Sweden, Switzerland, Denmark, Ireland, Cyprus, Russia, UK), Asia (Pakistan, India, Thailand, Dubai, Israel), Africa (Kenya, South Africa, Sierra Leone), the Americas (US, Canada, Trinidad) and Australia.

Collectors’ comments:

“Lotta... you have made me the happiest I have been this year........so delighted with both of them, they lift my gloom every time I look at them. Thank you so much.”

“I am incredibly lucky to have an amazing family and the books you paint convey that perfectly. It’s really hard to articulate but, there is something about the tradition of penguin and the well thumbed yet loved books, and most importantly the way you so expertly paint them that perfectly portrays what I can’t say in words.”

“I am delighted to report that the painting has just arrived safe and sound (and cards of course). And, that the painting is even more beautiful, and looks even better in my space, than I imagined.”

“Your brushwork is exquisite, and such a beautiful delicacy in your tones. Bravo on a fantastic collection.”
