In Lotta’s first solo show, she will be presenting about 75 oil paintings, a combination of ‘plein air’ and still life.

About the Exhibition

In 2021, Lotta found herself unexpectedly living in Thailand and Kenya as a consequence of the pandemic. She made the most of locally available materials and happily both countries provided outstanding opportunities to paint a huge variety of new plein air scenes from glittering pagodas to sand-swirling beaches. Intermittent lockdowns and quarantines provided productive time for still life work, set up in makeshift studios painting local fruit and eggs alongside household objects and antiques.

In this exhibition, the viewer will see the rich colours of East Africa and Asia painted loosely as Lotta tries to obtain accuracy of colour and drawing while maintaining a certain liveliness. While she focuses particular attention on composition and restrained brushstrokes, the end product is a series of paintings that evoke memories of a calmer time and allow the viewer a moment to breathe.

About Lotta

Having started painting professionally four years ago after a career as a barrister in international development, Lotta won first prize in the 2021 British Art Prize and has in the last year exhibited at the London Biennale, a range of exhibitions with the Federation of British Artists (New English Arts Club, Royal Society of Marine Artists, Royal Insitute of Oil Painters and Society of Women Artists), and started showing with several private galleries (upcoming shows include Panter and Hall, the Russell Gallery, the Jerram Gallery, and Nadia Waterfield Fine Art). John Lewis is going to be selling prints of her work from Autumn 2021. She is now living in her late grandmother’s flat in Tuscany.
