From grapes to wine; from earth to food
October 1–30, 2026, National History Museum of Moldova
This exhibition, organized to coincide with the National Wine Day in the Republic of Moldova and World Food Day, brought together a diversity of paintings by two contemporary artists - Lotta Teale and Daniela Mereuța, and pieces from the Museum's collection, many of them rarely exhibited, around the theme of grapes, wine and food production, to celebrate Moldova's growing international reputation in the wine and agri-food sectors.
Building on its heritage as one of the world’s oldest wine-growing regions, Moldova is today at the forefront of innovations in grape growing and wine production. The exhibition reflects the central place of viticulture in cultural life, from the earliest archaeological times to the present. It includes paintings and artifacts related to all stages of the production cycle - from grapes on the vine, the harvest and the fruit ready to be put on the table, to the traces of half-empty glasses left after the meal. The exhibition brings together oil paintings, textiles and ceramics around this common theme and explores how these subjects have been represented from the first decades of the 20th century to the present day. Together, they reflect the cycle of production, which has remained a constant of everyday life, regardless of historical transformations. The exhibition is organized under the patronage of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
